Well, it was interesting. I went to college at University of Pennsylvaniaand I was in the Engineering School. After doing some research and being in a lab, I realized I needed a lot more human interaction than just sitting in a lab all day.
My family, my father, and two older brothers, at that point, were committed to medicine. My dad was a plastic surgeon and my brothers are both surgeons now. I also didn't enjoy the hospital setting. I don't know how to put this, but really, being around sick people, it just depressed me. Picking dentistry, and specifically wanting to go into dental school to go into orthodontics, was a natural from engineering because really, orthodontics is just engineering in a biologic environment. In many ways, it was very consistent with my upbringing, being in a healthcare environment, and then taking that side of my brain that is very left brain engineering type, and going into orthodontics.

He was asked to be one of the few orthodontists nationwide to serve on the suresmile advisory board. He prides himself on staying ahead of the curve and has enjoyed teaching other orthodontists around the country about virtual treatment and the future of orthodontics.
He met his wife, Ilene, at the University of Pennsylvania and they’ve been married for more than 32 years. Close family ties have always been an important value for the couple, which is what brought them to Florida in 1986. Their son, Josh, is keeping dentistry in the family. He graduated from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in 2014 and is getting a combined MD and oral surgery degree from UCLA. Their daughter, Michelle, graduated from Tulane University in New Orleans in 2012 and is getting her Masters in Early Education and Museum Art from Bank Street Graduate School of Education in New York City.
An avid golfer in his free time, he shares that passion with his son. While exercise, music, the Miami Heat, and electronics help Dr. Wohlgemuth relax, spending time with his wife and two children is what he enjoys most and values outside the office.
Together, his family takes pride in being involved in the local community. By supporting many organizations, local sports teams, area schools, synagogues, churches, and many patients’ endeavors, he’s been able to give back to the community that has helped him fulfill many of his dreams.
